‘Broken? Fix It!’ Exhibition, at Long Island Children’s Museum

“By the time Alaina Herman was finished with the “Broken? Fix It!” exhibition at the Long Island Children’s Museum, she had learned how to rebuild a brick wall, change the oil in a car and glue a cracked china plate back together. But what really caught her attention was a demonstration on repairing window screens.

Her grandmother had one that needed fixing, Alaina, 12, said. Now, thanks to what she learned from the display, she decided she was going to tackle the job herself. It didn’t hurt that Grandma, who had brought Alaina and her 9-year-old brother, Jake, to the museum, had also mentioned payment.”
